Between Analog and Digital Audio Signal
Whatever you want listen great sound in home entertainment, karaoke set or others, we?ll see two system recordings, analog or digital recording. Almost people sure that analog audio always better than digital. This believe isn?t without reason. Even digital development never ending until today. But analog recording give us better result. There are several differences between analog and digital audio recording. Basically, analog recording is process to record analog signal produced by human vocal, music instrument, or others to recording media. Till today we believe that all sound in the universe are analog signal waves. So we sure that best way to catch this signal is record it by analog process.
Difference with analog recording, digital recording is process to split analog signal to several digital codes and record it to digital recording media. This mean that ?digital society? agree that natural sound resource always produce analog signal. The question is why people want to record by digital system although they know that the resources are analog. One and the only answer is digital always reproduce same quality between source and destination. This because digital code only contain 0 and 1 digit number. And easy to compare 0 and 1 in digital code between source and destination.?
But all recording process depends on environment used. With perfect environment we can produce perfect recording. Let us discuss about recording analog and digital signal with equal quality environment. In analog recording, all analog signal from source take to record fully. We?re not discussing about distortion, noise or others. But ideally all analog signal range will record at all. With perfect recording environment we?ll produce perfect recording result. As simple as we want.
But when we talk about digital recording, we have to decide how smooth recording we want. Cause digital process will split our analog signal to several digital codes. When we want to record one periodic analog signal (see figure), digital recorder will split it by several digital signal as we want. For example one second periodic analog signal will record on 48000 sample rate. That mean the analog signal will split to 48000 recording code to play in one second audio. Higher sample rate will produce better record. And we have to decide resolution of the signal. There are three option resolution 8 bits, 16 bits or 32 bits recording. This resolution maintains how detail the signal will record. And of course higher resolution give us more details. But of course digital recordings will loss several details from original audio analog signal.
And now we understand why almost people believe that analog always better than digital. Do you agree ?
